About Companion Care Animal Hospital
Since opening our doors in 2005, Companion Care Animal Hospital has remained locally owned and managed by Dr. Downey.
We perform many veterinary services with a special focus on surgery and preventive medicine, and we believe that pet owner education is a critical factor in long-term pet health. Whether you bring your pet in for a routine wellness visit or a complex procedure, we take the time to explain your options and recommendations clearly.

Veterinary Technicians
Angela

Angela is a licensed veterinary technician who is a graduate of Medaille College. She began her career here at Companion Care Animal Hospital in July of 2006 but had to part ways in February of 2008 to experience life in Chicago. After 4 years away, she moved home with her family and came back to work with OUR family. Her animal children include 2 dogs, Roman and Milo, and a cat named Pippen “Pip” Bear.

Michelle

Michelle currently has 8 boxers: Berlyn, Londyn, Trent, Dylan, Ashtyn, Quinlyn, Sloane, and Luther. Her work interests include orthopedic and soft tissue surgery. Michelle is the “go-to” person for the majority of the breeding and whelping questions that come through the hospital, as she is an avid breeder of champion Boxers.
When not at work, her interests include breeding and showing her Boxers, traveling (mostly to dog shows all over the East Coast), camping, and spending time with her husband. Michelle graced Companion Care with her presence in May of 2007 and has been a valuable asset to the team ever since.

Bethany

Originally born in Newfane, NY, Bethany was raised in Phoenix, Arizona, in a home where pet ownership was both encouraged and celebrated. This early exposure to animals nurtured her deep compassion and sparked a lifelong dedication to helping sick and injured pets.
Around the age of 40, Bethany made the bold decision to pursue veterinary medicine—not as a career shift, but as a way to gain the medical knowledge she needed to support her passion for wildlife rehabilitation. She earned her degree from Medaille College in August 2019 and has been working as a veterinary technician ever since.
Outside of work, Bethany is an avid outdoorswoman who enjoys hiking, hands-on projects, welding, and woodworking. She also shares her home with several beloved pets who inspire her every day.
