Pet Diagnostics

Advanced Tools to Better Understand Your Pet’s Health

In-house diagnostics tell us more about pets than exams alone.

The staff at Companion Care Animal Hospital use pet diagnostics to evaluate health concerns, monitor chronic conditions, and detect hidden health problems. Our veterinary hospital in Wheatfield, NY is equipped with both digital X-ray imaging and in-house laboratory technology that get us answers when your pet needs them most.

Digital X-Rays for Cats and Dogs

We offer high-resolution digital X-rays to assess your pet’s bones, joints, chest, and abdomen. Whether your pet has an injury, is showing signs of pain, or needs pre-surgical imaging, digital radiography provides fast, detailed results with minimal stress. In addition to full-body imaging, we also have digital dental X-rays, which we can use to evaluate the health of teeth and roots below the gumline during a dental cleaning.

In-House Laboratory Services

These are some of the common veterinary diagnostics our staff runs.

Blood Tests

Bloodwork evaluates your pet’s organ function, red and white blood cell counts, and more. Running a blood screening is useful for both sick visits and routine vet visits.

Urinalysis

A pet urinalysis can identify urinary tract infections, kidney function issues, and other internal concerns.

Cytology

A cytology is for examining cells under a microscope that we take from your pet’s skin masses, ears, or other body parts. Useful for diagnosing certain infections, parasites, or other issues.

Disease Screenings

We can perform rapid screening for certain diseases such as heartworm, parvovirus, and feline leukemia. These quick tests allow us to start treatments during the same visit.

When to Expect Your Pet’s Lab Results

While some pet diagnostics are completed in-house, we also gather samples to be sent for external testing in a specialized laboratory. For these cases, result turnaround times vary depending on the specific test.
We will keep you updated as soon as your pet’s results are available.

Make Diagnostics Part of Routine Veterinary Care

Pet diagnostics are just as important as vaccines and exams. We recommend basic lab work, such as bloodwork and parasite screenings, at least once a year for all pets, even if they appear healthy. Why? Because many health issues begin silently, and early detection allows us to intervene before symptoms become serious. For senior pets or those with chronic conditions, more frequent testing may be recommended to monitor changes and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
