A Safe Approach to Pet Surgery
When your pet needs surgery, it should be mandatory that the care team understands their full medical picture. At Companion Care Animal Hospital, we take the time to assess your pet’s condition, review all options, and create a surgical plan. Pre-operative bloodwork is required for all procedures to evaluate organ function and check for underlying conditions. We follow strict safety and cleanliness protocols in our surgical suite to reduce risk and support successful recoveries.
Your pet’s health, comfort, and safety always come first.

After surgery, you’ll receive detailed recovery instructions, including pain management, incision care, and activity restrictions. We encourage you to ask questions at any point. FAQs About Pet Surgery
Is anesthesia safe for my pet?
Yes, anesthesia is safe for most pets. We use modern anesthetic protocols and monitor your pet closely throughout surgery. Pre-operative bloodwork enables us to administer anesthesia safely for each individual companion.
How long will my pet be in surgery?
It depends on the procedure. Most soft-tissue surgeries take 30–60 minutes for the procedure itself (not including pre-op and recovery time), but we are happy to give you an estimate ahead of time and keep you updated throughout the process.
Can my pet eat before surgery?
No. We typically ask that pets fast prior to surgery. Specific instructions will be provided based on your pet’s health and the type of procedure.
When should I be concerned about how my pet’s incision is healing?
If you notice swelling, discharge, or redness around a healing incision or if your pet seems to develop lethargy, a fever, or refusal to eat/drink, please contact us right away.
What should I expect when I bring my pet home?
You’ll receive a full discharge with medication instructions, wound care guidelines, and instructions on rest. Your pet may be groggy and/or disinterested in food for several hours following surgery.
